Community Investment Strengthens Stability Across the Fox Cities

Every day, individuals and families across the Fox Cities are doing everything they can to make ends meet. Rising costs, health challenges, and unexpected life events continue to put pressure on households throughout our region.

What makes the Fox Cities different is how this community responds.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, more than $5.3 million is being invested in local nonprofits through United Way’s annual community grants, including $400,000 aligned through a co‑funding partnership with the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

The 2026-27 funding supports essential services that help people stay housed, access food, care for their physical and mental health, and secure reliable childcare. These are the building blocks of a stable, resilient community. These are also areas where needs continue to grow faster than available resources.

Behind every investment is a thoughtful, community‑driven process shaped by nonprofit partners, volunteers, and local data. The goal is simple: move resources where they can do the most good, while honoring donor intent and community priorities.

A NEW, COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO FUNDING

For the first time, United Way Fox Cities and the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region are working together through a collaborative, co‑funding approach, bringing additional funding alongside United Way’s community investments. This pilot builds on a long‑standing, trusted relationship between the two organizations and responds directly to nonprofit feedback calling for funders to better coordinate and pool resources.

Through a shared application and review process, this approach avoids added administrative work for nonprofits while helping funders align their efforts. As a result, 29 nonprofit organizations are receiving support from both organizations through a single funding cycle, moving more dollars to the right places, more efficiently.

This collaboration benefits everyone:

Nonprofits receive coordinated support without additional reporting or applications.
Donor‑directed funds are matched more quickly and effectively to community needs.
The community benefits from a more responsive, aligned regional funding system.

This collaboration is an early step toward a more coordinated philanthropic ecosystem; one that listens to nonprofit partners, uses collective resources more strategically, and strengthens long‑term community impact.

Impact beyond grants

Community impact goes beyond grants alone. While $5.3 million is being awarded through Community Impact grants, United Way Fox Cities’ total investment in the region reaches $7.3 million, reflecting a broader commitment to supporting people in ways that meet both urgent and ongoing needs.

That commitment includes ensuring neighbors can find help when they need it—whether that means dialing 211 to connect with local resources, accessing essentials for their families through partners like the Kimberly‑Clark Eastern Wisconsin Diaper Bank, or receiving consistent, year‑round support from nonprofit organizations working across health, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resiliency.

By combining strategic grantmaking with direct services, partnerships, and resource connections, United Way Fox Cities helps meet immediate needs today while strengthening stability and opportunity for the future.
