After school programs are more than a place for kids to go. They are proven to increase school-day engagement, reduce absenteeism, and improve academic performance.

One United Way-funded program saw immense growth in a student named Simon*.

Simon showed up at Youth Go after school while his family was struggling financially, and his grades were suffering. Youth Go became a safe space with consistent meals and homework help, setting Simon up to thrive.

Simon’s artistic talent grew as he explored music technology and various instruments.  He said,

“Because of this program, I have gained a deep love for music which has inspired me to further my career to teach music to similar youth.”

After high school, Simon worked to save money and explore job opportunities. He returned to Youth Go, this time as an assistant – teaching music and technology.

Simon’s journey from overcoming barriers to pursuing a college education and music career highlights the impact your partnership can have.

Our youth can reach their full potential when we advance what works – early childhood education, afterschool and summer programs, career readiness, and fostering a future where every young person can realize their dreams.

When health, education, and financial stability are all supported, youth can reach their full potential in school and life. When you partner with United Way, you create a safety net for a better quality of life.
